Action has been on the rise as The Council of Fashion Designers of America is leading the way with a lobbying campaign in Washington for new anti-copying laws. Some designers such as Diane Von Furstenberg and Zac Posen have even been traveling to Washington to speak in favor of copyright protection. Senator Charles E. Schumer, Democrat of New York shared that, “Designers spend countless hours doing and redoing, testing, creating, thinking, and then some counterfeiter comes along and just takes it away. It’s stealing, plain and simple.”

Sister and Designers Nichole and Natascha Shamlian of Je’Marie PurseHook & Accessories share the same desire for copyright protection. These two sisters have been credited with putting the Handbag Hanger back on the map. Although the tabletop Purse Hook was first patented in the early 1900’s, then in fashion during the 20’s and 40’s, the overall design was nowhere as fashionable as it is today. After Nichole’s find of a vintage purse hook at an estate sale, the sister’s imagination took off. They added crystals, Fusion Glass and hand crafted Femo Clay to their product with instant success. Within months they had boutique accounts all over San Diego and shortly after their products went Nationwide. But, it wasn’t too long before knock offs started to show up. “I’ll never forget, the first time I saw an imitation of our designs, it took my breath away” says Natascha, “That’s when we knew we had to create new and more unique products to stay well ahead of the pack.”

That’s when the girl’s went into action after listening to what their customers were looking for and created the FUMI - Fashionable Unique Multipurpose Innovation.
